What the tour really costs
The price on the booking page covers the quad bike, protective gear and guide. Not included is the permit for the Witzands Nature Reserve, where the dunes are located: according to the operator, R300 per person, payable on arrival.
So budget like this: the tour price plus R300 per person. For two adults, that’s an extra R600, payable on the day.
You’ll also need a valid passport (or a South African ID). Before the ride, you fill in a City of Cape Town liability waiver on-site, and the operator requires the document for that. Bring one of those original documents.
How the hour unfolds
According to the booking page, the 60 minutes break down like this:

So actual riding time is 35 to 40 minutes. The quads are automatic, and you learn to ride during the induction. According to the operator, the dunes are up to 50 metres high; the route goes uphill, downhill and across uneven ground. Along the way, the guide takes photos on your own phone or camera. The operator prohibits drones.
The photo stop is part of the concept. Current reviews praise guides who help with pictures and assist riders who get stuck in the sand. Allow for the briefing and photo stop when deciding how much riding time you want.
Getting there: on your own
The meeting point is Atlantis Dunes WildX Adventures, 0 Dassenberg Drive, Atlantis. Organise your journey there and your return in advance. The tour is guided in English.
The operator sets these arrival and cancellation conditions:
- 30 minutes before the start time is when you should be there.
- Anyone who arrives late or doesn’t show up loses the booking.
- A same-day rebooking due to lateness costs R250 per person.
- Cancelling or rebooking on the day itself isn’t possible. According to the booking page, you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours in advance.
Plan the journey with a buffer. The page’s paid late-rebooking rule conflicts with its ban on same-day rebooking; ask the operator which applies before relying on a change.
With children: passengers only
The rule for children is stated clearly on the booking page: children up to and including age 12 only ride as a passenger with an adult, and each child needs its own adult in the group. So two parents with three children under 13 can’t go on one tour together. Ask the operator before booking with very young passengers.
According to the operator, the tour is not suitable for pregnant women or people with back problems. Wear comfortable clothes suited to riding on sand.

Three things stand out:
The short version costs €32.15 per person, compared with €26.25 for the hour-long experience. Its 30 minutes include the photo stop. Add the operator’s R300 permit per person and arrive 30 minutes early, with a passport or South African ID. Hotel transport is excluded.
The former quad-and-sandboard combination at €75.15 per person now has a one-hour small-group quad title and a limit of eight participants. Its itinerary still lists an optional two-hour quad-and-sandboarding activity. Do not assume two hours or free sandboarding: confirm your selected option and whether its listed R300 quad permit is included. It starts at Witzands Aquifer Nature Reserve, is instructed in English and excludes pregnant women and people with back problems.
The one-hour photoshoot tour at €26.78 per person also charges for the permit. The page contradicts itself: one section says R300 cash or R310 by card, another reverses those amounts. Confirm the payment method and fee before travelling. The briefing is within the advertised hour, but its stated length also varies. For most people: the WILDX quad dune adventure with photo stop at €26.25. The operator’s stated timings leave about 35–40 minutes of riding after the photo stop. Budget the tour price plus R300 per person for the permit and organise your return journey.
For a small group: Small-group quad adventure at €75.15 per person. The current offer limits the group to eight. Confirm the duration, permit and sandboarding option before comparing it with WILDX.
For sandboarding without a quad: sandboarding alone at €16.05 per person for 1.5 hours. Add the operator’s R96 permit per person, payable on arrival. Bring an original passport or South African ID. Meet at WildX Adventures, 0 Dassenberg Drive; instruction is in English. People with back problems and wheelchair users are excluded.
Not worth it without a car and without a plan for getting there, on a tight same-day schedule, with several young children per adult, or if you have back problems – according to the operator, the tour isn’t suitable for pregnant women or people with back problems either.
