Cape Town Airport Transfers: Which Private Ride to Book?

6 min read

For most arrivals the private one-way transfer with a greeting in the arrivals hall is the safe choice: from €42.40, 4.9 stars from 312 reviews – by far the broadest track record of the four offers. It takes you to your hotel or guest house. The three alternatives are better in one respect only: they cost less or offer more service, but have far fewer reviews.

Which transfer for whom

The standard. According to its description the driver waits in the arrivals hall and takes you to your accommodation. The destination is not limited to the centre, and 312 reviews are more than the other three combined.

The city-centre transfer. It is €7.44 cheaper, but only runs from the airport to hotels in the city centre; for pickups outside it the operator charges extra, which you settle with them beforehand. If your accommodation is clearly in the centre, it saves money. If it is on the edge, the advantage can disappear.

The transfer with a female driver. The same price as the city-centre transfer, but with a female driver and bookable to or from the airport – handy if you also need it for the flight home. With 23 reviews and 4.5 stars the track record is thin.

Meet & greet. A welcome, tracking of your arrival time and a professional chauffeur: €106.82, more than twice the standard transfer, based on 17 reviews. It pays off if you do not want to organise anything after a long flight or your flight is likely to be late. If you simply want to be collected, you pay here for services you do not need.

Our recommendation

Book the private one-way transfer for €42.40. Save with the city-centre transfer only if your address is clearly in the centre, and choose the meet-and-greet service if flight tracking and a personal welcome make the difference for you.
