Cape Wheel Ticket: Is the 15-Minute Ride Worth It?
6 min read
The Cape Wheel ticket costs €14.74 and is worth it if you are at the V&A Waterfront anyway and want a short view without effort – not as an outing of its own. With 4.5 stars from 386 reviews the ride is solid, but not a highlight of the city. If you want height and distance, buy the Table Mountain cable car instead.

What you get for €15.50
One ride lasts four revolutions, about 15 minutes according to the operator. The view takes in Table Mountain, Robben Island, the Cape Town skyline and the surrounding mountains. The wheel stands at the V&A Waterfront, so you do not have to cross the city for it if dinner, shopping or a boat trip is planned there anyway.
| Offer | Duration | Price from | Rating | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cape Wheel ticket | 15 minutes | €14.74 | 4.5 (386 reviews) | a short view between two appointments at the Waterfront |
When it is worth it
- You have 30 minutes before dinner or before your boat leaves.
- You want to see Table Mountain and the skyline without hiking and without queuing for the cable car.
- You want something at the Waterfront that costs little and takes little time.
When it is not
The wheel stands at the harbour. You see Table Mountain from there, but you are not on it. The Table Mountain cable car costs from €53.46, more than three times as much; for that you get the view from above instead of looking up at it. And if the water is what you want, the 30-minute harbour cruise with seal watching is the better ride: from €4.29, 4.7 stars from 481 reviews, also at the Waterfront.
Our recommendation
Take the Cape Wheel as a gap filler, not a destination: 15 minutes for €15.50 is fair when the Waterfront is on your plan anyway. If you build the day around a view, the cable car is the better choice.
